VOLUNTEER HOLIDAYS 2012

Day 1

Fly to Entebbe. An overnight flight is our recommendation as it enables you to get to grips with the jet lag far more quickly.

Day 2

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport where you will be met by your guide and fountain of all knowledge whilst you stay in Uganda. Take a break at the beach on the banks of lake Victoria before transferring to Kampala where you will be staying for the first week of your trip. Afternoon go to town to change money and then on to Munyonyo Lake Victoria Resort for swimming / resting and for lunch and then back to the Accommodation for the evening.

Day 3
After breakfast, your driver and our field Director will take you to the project. Introduce you to the staff and give you a guided tour. Your duties for the 5 days at the PROJECT (orphanage / school) will be explained and the duties will be designated to each guest, after that you will get stuck in right away. Work at the Orphanage may include painting rooms and decorating children’s bedrooms, looking after children, cleaning the compound and planting flowers. If you have special skills that could help the project function more smoothly they would value your specialist input.
Lunch will be a simple Ugandan meal. Locally resourced and cooked for you by the women / girls at the orphanage. It will be a good time to discover cooking in Africa, and 'having a go' yourself.

Back to your accommodation in the evening.

Day 4

After breakfast, to the PROJECT (orphanage / school)
Lunch will be a simple Ugandan meal. Locally resourced and cooked for you by the women / girls at the orphanage.

Back to your accommodation in the evening.

Day 5

After breakfast, to the PROJECT
Lunch will be a simple Ugandan meal. Locally resourced and cooked for you by the women / girls at the project.

Back to your accommodation to get ready to experience the very best of restaurants (Khanna Kazanna – one of the best Indian restaurants in the world) in the evening.

Day 6

After breakfast, we visit Jinja. The 2nd city in Uganda. This is the adventure capital of Uganda (and all of East Africa) and you can purchase some additional activities such as Whitewater Rafting on the Bujagali Falls, Bungee jumping over The River Nile, Quad Biking, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Horse-back Safari along the banks of the Nile. You can also visit the source of the great river Nile or just simply sit overlooking the river whilst supping tea , soda or – the best beer in the world - Nile Special (brewed from The River Nile waters), whilst reading the latest novel and watching the more energetic jump or raft beneath.

After a full energetic day return to your accommodation in the evening.

Day 7
After breakfast, travel to 'Possibilities with Goats.' This will be a non-active day. You will spend time with some village folk, check on the goats and have a very 'African' day cooking and eating the african way and generally relaxing and eating locally sourced and prepared produce.

Day 8

After breakfast, to the PROJECT
Lunch will be a simple Ugandan meal. Locally resourced and cooked for you by the women / girls at the orphanage.

Back to your accommodation in the evening.

Day 9

To Kampala for the morning. Sunday Church services at Watoto for those who want to join 2,000 other people in a service at one of Uganda’s biggest Churches with 20,000 memberships. Munyonyo Lake resort for a swim and lunch and have a lazy afternoon. In the evening we will go to Ndere cultural centre to watch a variety of Uganda culture performances with songs and dances from the major tribes of Uganda.

Day 10

After breakfast, to the PROJECT

This will be your last day at the project and it will be the time to say good bye.
Lunch will be a simple Ugandan meal. Locally resourced and cooked for you by the women / girls at the orphanage. After lunch you will go into Kampala to the craft markets to pick up those souvenirs, trinkets that will remind you of your amazing trip to Uganda. Remember to Haggle, it is the accepted norm.

Back to your accommodation in the evening.

Day 11
Today you will experience Uganda at its most elementary. We will set off early for to Murchison Falls National Park. Murchison is in the North West of Uganda. Cross the Nile by ferry and arrive in the afternoon before taking an early evening game drive. And then arriving at Paraa Safari Lodge our accommodation for the next 2 nights. (Paraa Safari Lodge was the Queen Mother's favourite accommodation in Africa)

Day 12

We are going for an early morning game drive to see Uganda’s wildlife in the park. We hope to see lions, elephants, hippos, giraffe, Uganda kob, crocodile, thousands of birds and much more in their natural habitat and then return to the lodge for Lunch and a well deserved rest.
After lunch take the launch trip up the White Nile to Murchison Falls where the mighty Nile forces its way through a gap in the rocks, only 7 metres (23 ft) wide, and tumbles 43 metres (141 ft), it then flows westward into Lake Albert. You will get up close and personal with amazing wild life. And take many memorable photos of African wildlife.
Then return to the Lodge for a rest and relaxation by the pool before Dinner is served.

Day 13
Breakfast, transfer to the Kibale Forest Tented Camp where we will be trekking Chimpanzees and various other apes and monkeys. We will lunch on the way and, if possible, visit the white rhino project where this amazing animal is being bred to re-introduce it into it's original Ugandan habitat.

Day 14
Today we will trek chimpanzees – an experience never to be forgotten. We may be lucky and catch a glimpse of forest elephants and other primates as well.

Day 15
After Breakfast we will transfer to Entebbe passing through Masaka after stopping at the Equator for a photograph. Then we will travel on to Entebbe ready for the flight the next day.

Stay in Entebbe for your final night.

Day 16

You will be taken to Entebbe airport for your departure flight.
